Blood Pressure
Blood pressure is the force of blood against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps it around the body. It is measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg) and is presented as two values: systolic pressure (when the heart contracts) over diastolic pressure (when the heart is at rest). The normal range is typically around 120/80 mmHg.
High Blood Pressure (Hypertension):
- Persistent elevation increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, and other health issues.
- Lifestyle factors like diet, physical activity, and stress management play a crucial role in blood pressure management.
- Medications may be prescribed for persistent high blood pressure.
Low Blood Pressure (Hypotension):
- Can cause dizziness, fainting, and fatigue.
- Adequate hydration, increasing salt intake, and addressing underlying health conditions are common approaches.
Regular monitoring, a healthy lifestyle, and medical guidance are essential for maintaining optimal blood pressure levels.
